Merna Sami told us that since graduation she has dreamed of creating her own business but she feels she still needs to gain more experience until she can take this next step. In order to achieve so, she has worked in many interior design companies and where she learned how to work with a team, how to get an idea and improve it, and so on. She attended training at Elmasria and Engco to name a few. She stated that during this period, her passion and ambition to produce more independent projects only grew.
I loved how the designers and architects think about creating a space in a wonderful and comfortable way for the user.
Another great way to learn and grow as an interior designer is through teamwork according to her. Merna Sami loves teamwork since it gives more space for creativity. The exchange of opinions and ideas provides more opportunities to produce the best design. She enjoys teamwork especially when the team members are outstanding, creative, and have significant knowledge in the field of design. It opens new horizons of ideas for all of the team members.
One of her biggest challenges to this day has been a client who wanted something new, that he had never seen before. Despite liking all of her design ideas, he wasn’t convinced so Merna Sami had to work on a mood board full of different ideas that matched his taste and what he likes. For this project, she even had to design furniture in a creative way to fulfill the client’s request of something that he did not see an imitation of before. It was one of the most difficult times she had to design a space, she confided.
Looking towards the future, Merna Sami is now currently working on a ground floor design for a villa in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, consisting of a living room for guests, a dining room, a family hall, and a master bedroom with an outdoor garden and sitting area. We are very much excited to see this new project in the future.
The project Merna Sami is the proudest of is her graduation “Sea Wonders Eco-lodge” project. It was an eco-lodge that has a museum showing ancient whale fossils in the area of Valley of the Whales in Faiyum governorate in Egypt.
The Valley of the Whales was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2005 for its hundreds of fossils of some of the earliest forms of whales. This Project is about an Eco-lodge in this heritage site. This project also earned her an award at the “International Design Awards” Ceremony in 2019, is Los Angeles.
There is no fixed styles in Merna Sami’s projects, but she tends to lean into more modern and luxurious modern interior designs. There are some styles that are required by clients, such as classic, neoclassic, and contemporary, but most of the required designs are in luxury modern style. For the trends, she is looking for what is new in colors, materials and wall claddings, following the up-to-date designs in accordance with the requirements of the client and his taste.

It can be hard to showcase the client’s needs and desires while keeping a signature style. Merna Sami confessed that she usually starts her projects by making a mood board. In this mood board, she collects images of the client’s taste with suggestions to develop the idea and present it in a better way. Through a discussion with the client, we get a developed idea of what they want to appear in the interior design. She mainly works on the client’s idea, but with her own style, so that it is in line with their taste and ideas, but with a new character.
Choosing between functionality or beauty, the interior designer decides to pay attention to function foremost. She takes care of the basic standards, and functional dimensions, so that the design is functionally appropriate and comfortable for the client.
Only afterward she will look at the aesthetic touches of colors, engravings, accessories, and decorative complements. She told us she takes into account that the scene is aesthetically rendered by adding aesthetic supplements, for example, plants, antiques, artifacts, statues and accessories that add beauty to the scene.
Rugs are an essential element in Merna Sami designs, especially with large spacious areas. With its different patterns and distinctive colors, it distinguishes the furniture placed above it. We asked her what were her favorite products from Home’Society collection and collective brands. She highlighted the “OSLO RUG” from Rug’Society, the “LAPIAZ” collection from Maison Valentina and the “ARDARA II Console” From BRABBU.
They are so luxury and have a fancy look. I use them in inspirational mood boards of luxury modern interiors as suggestions for luxury furniture pieces in the design, meanwhile, there are many other beautiful pieces in your brands to be used in my mood boards, I just chose here my favorite ones.
