Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris has for motto ‘Once upon a time, the palace of tomorrow,‘ and it emphasizes two important aspects. ‘Once once a time’ recalls the beginning of the Hotel‘s story, while the ‘palace of tomorrow’ has a look towards the future.
The “once upon a time” of the Hôtel Plaza Athénée focuses first and foremost on respecting its heritage and recognizing the Hotel’s essence. The façade, foyer, and wood paneling of Le Bar, La Galerie, the “Haut de cuisine” restaurant, La Cour Jardin, and Le Relais Plaza are all listed as historic landmarks in Paris. Furthermore, the Hotel’s interaction with its visitors, as well as its connection with its workers, some of whom have worked at the Hotel for over thirty years, contribute to the character of the Hotel.
The second element of the Hôtel Plaza Athénée’s philosophy, ‘the palace of tomorrow,’ analyzes how to effectively incorporate the historic palace into the modern world without compromising the property’s legacy. The aim here was to gently improve the Hotel’s homey ambiance for our existing guests while also thinking of a design that will appeal to future generations.
The foyer, La Galerie, La Cour Jardin, the Salon Organza, and the new Salon Haute Couture have all been designed by globally known interior designer Bruno Moinard.
Bruno Moinard has stressed a delicate silver color scheme that complements the existing Hôtel Plaza Athénée’s elements and is accentuated by light effects, whether natural or electric, to create a stunning yet discrete ambiance without affecting the Hotel’s idea.
When guests enter the foyer, they will be immediately engulfed in Haute Couture. Floral arrangements, which are changed weekly, contribute to the pleasant mood. Furniture in bronze, marble, and brushed oak has been developed, as has wall paneling in wood. The mosaic floor is covered with a rug inspired by a crystalline theme, which mirrors the huge chandelier.

“Today, luxury is found in detail, in the seam, the lining, in what remains unseen, in surprises. Not in extravagance or overtly opulent decor.”
Bruno Moinard
Marie-José Pommereau was entrusted with the restoration of some of the guestrooms and suites, and she chose a range of warm tones for the walls, including peony, sun-infused yellow, and silver, as well as materials such as damask, embroideries, and plain silks from top couture houses to adorn the windows, armchairs, and beds. As separate residences, the 208 rooms and suites each have their own distinct character.
The first six stories are immersed in a traditional Haussmanien cosmos, complete with genuine furniture and towering ceilings, while the seventh – newly rebuilt by the firm Moinard and Bétaille – and eighth floors in Art Deco style pay homage to geometrics. The 52 rooms provide a breathtaking view of the exquisite Avenue Montaigne.
Dior has had a close association with the Hôtel Plaza Athénée since its inception in 1946. Christian Dior was enthusiastic about the hotel, which led to the establishment of the Dior Spa in 2008.
Dior Spa, which exudes a modern and elegant ambiance, is made up of six treatment rooms, one of which is double, and takes on Dior’s Haute Couture ethos on 30 avenue Montaigne to give customers high quality and personalized service.
The Dior Spa’s philosophy is “the ultimate luxury experience for pure beauty,” emphasizing the unique experience akin to Haute Couture. The Dior Spa treatments are devised, organized, and reinvented for each visitor, step by step, for quick and long-lasting revitalizing benefits, a fanciful and luxury experience.
The stylish brasserie at Hôtel Plaza Athénée is called ‘Le Relais Plaza’, which opened in 1936, has become one of the capital’s go-to attractions throughout the years. Bruno Moinard’s 2014 renovation of Le Relais Plaza mostly consisted of renovating a few features of the restaurant.
The lampshade, made of fibrous plaster folds, as well as the furniture and freshly increased bar area, got special attention. The Relais Plaza will be Chef Jean Imbert’s first project announced at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée after his appointment as head of all kitchens in September 2021.
Following the appointment of Chef Jean Imbert as director of all kitchens in September 2021, the Relais Plaza will be his first project shown at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée. For this initiative, the chef intended to present a cuisine inspired by his grandmother, featuring famous dishes as well as numerous new products from Parisian brasserie cuisine.
La Cour Jardin in the Hôtel Plaza Athénée, created by Olivier Riols and ornamented by Bruno Moinard, is a great environment for visitors to enjoy at any time of year. It changes into a serene environment in the summer, with its geraniums and Virginia creepers, crape myrtle, and scarlet camellias, where Chef Mathieu Emeraud provides Mediterranean-inspired meals capped with a sweet touch with one of Angelo Musa’s seasonal fruit-based desserts.
The courtyard of the Hôtel Plaza Athénée is covered with ice in the winter, making an approximately 100-square-meter rink! The ice rink, which has a trained teacher on standby, provides a secure area for youngsters to skate while their parents can watch from the Galerie’s inside warmth.
