Ghislaine Vinãs‘ multicultural upbringing is what shaped her into the outrageous and creative designer she is today. While Ghislaine was born in the Netherlands, she spent the majority of her early years in South Africa until she was 18 years old. she made the decision to immigrate to the United States in order to continue her studies in Philadelphia. When she had the chance to move to New York she didn’t hesitate and a new chapter started for her and her career.
For the past 22 years, the designer from New York has incorporated her own multicultural experience into each piece. Ghislaine’s irreverent style is all about transforming the finished product into a design that exudes laughter, joy, and spontaneity, regardless matter whether it is a product, home, or commercial project. The designer has won prestigious design awards and has been featured in numerous leading design journals. I’m absolutely overjoyed that my work is now appearing in journals like Elle Decor, and Architectural Digest.

The newly established designer is notable for both her upbeat personality and her unapologetically daring aesthetic, which is filled with strong color choices, contemporary shapes, art, and fun-loving statement accents. Ghislaine Vinãs has created colorful creations in the fields of residential, hospitality, and commercial interiors, as well as product design, inspired by materials and mediums that have yet to be explored.
Even before she realized she loved designing, she had a vivid personality and a desire to explore the unknown and leave her comfort zone. We got the opportunity to speak with the Dutch-born fashion designer and learn some insider information about her career trajectory and long-term goals, and today we cordially invite you to explore the radicalized world of Ghislaine Vinãs.
The world of interior design unexpectedly entered Ghislaine’s life after she relocated to New York City. Before the biggest opportunity of her career presented itself to her, she worked for that company for seven years and had the chance to learn more about the furniture industry.
“I sort of stumbled around for a bit and then ended up taking the wrong subway home, and coming out on the wrong subway stop, I saw a modular furniture store, and I went inside and it was like “here’s my resume, I wonder if you have any openings.”
Ghislaine Vinãs mentions that her career started to evolve when she has been referred by a friend to a woman her age who wanted to open up an office and asked to work with Ghislaine Vinãs hopped on the project which was 10 000 square feet office area on 26th street in New York. She highlights how this project was a great experience to have as an interior designer. Since then Ghislaine Vinãs has worked for this customer in various types of projects 22 years later (residential, office spaces, yachts, galleries, and even hotels). With all the time we spend together, we’ve grown to be very close friends, just like you.
Later, in 1999, Ghislaine Vinãs made the decision that it was time to strike out on her own and found what is now one of New York’s most renowned and award-winning studios where design is the focus, whether we’re talking about interior design, product design, or even creative direction services.
It kind of made sense for me to start my own business, and that wasn’t scary. I think that I’m not scared of the unknown, and sometimes being naive it’s a good thing”.
The studio hasn’t changed much since it opened and continues to serve as the hub of Ghislaine Vinãs’ brand and a testing ground for all of her artistic activities. Being an entrepreneur, a designer, a wife, and a mother at the same time was the hardest element of this process, according to the Dutch-born designer.
The studio’s DNA embodies Ghislaine’s innate fascination for dramatic compositions and fun color contrasts, which are very distinct from the typical patterns of the design industry. Ghislaine is the talented professional she is today because of her ability to think outside the box and push the limits of creativity.
Ghislaine Vinãs admitted that she hadn’t yet created what she thought would be the career-defining project when we asked her about it. She would rather focus on designs that have more difficulties which helped strengthen her creative ideas and makes her grow as a professional. the residential Skyhouse project in the city was one of several concepts that helped her increase her creativity. She also got the opportunity to collaborate with David Hodgson, a renowned architect.
Ghislaine Vinãs was regarded as an Elle Decor A-Lister for 2021 and has been working on some exciting projects where it is meant to provide a cozy, homey vibe in a commercial setting. Since the global pandemic, a new idea has emerged that is undoubtedly difficult but increases the significance of domestic design.
In terms of the future, Ghislaine Vinãs still has a ton of dream projects ahead of her that test her originality and ingenuity. She is always looking for the next challenge.
“I want to have a company come to us and use our way of thinking, our way of bringing joy, our aesthetics, our way of turning things upside down or seeing things inside out. So I’m always excited about my next challenge.”
