Sometimes it is difficult to make your decor work. A rug can act as the star of your interior design and decoration process. Other times it is a little bit harder to incorporate this accessory into your home decor because of the overall color scheme you are using. So the goal here is to know how to decorate around your favorite rug.

Everyone knows that sometimes it is difficult to decorate your furniture thinking about your rug. We took some advice from Elle Decor and specifically from the interior designer and stylist PJ Mehaffey, and carpet designer Malene Barnett.
You should take your rug when you go shopping for furniture to know the exact color and size, pictures are never enough in this case.
Don’t try to coordinate each and every item because there should be some different and bold items around, just make it harmonious. Remember that eventually you will get tired of that rug so maybe you are going to exchange it some time in your life. The pieces of furniture you buy must be versatile so they can fit with another rug.
Barnett has another perspective on this: he thinks that furniture should sit on the rug and not on the edges because this allows the rug to blend in with the space “instead of being isolated like an island” she says.
Use the rug to determinate the shape of the room
The rug can be your anchor so the furniture is arranged around the rug. The rug will be in the center of the room, that is Mehaffey’s opinion.
Don’t be afraid of using statement rugs, play with them and the decor around and you will have a room full of personality!
