The Rug Company was founded in 1997 with the aim of creating the most beautiful rugs in the world. The concept was simple, but pioneering: to combine the ancient craft of rug-making with dazzling contemporary designs. Contemporary Rugs will show you some of this modern rugs company showrooms around the world.
Christopher & Suzanne Sharpver are the company founders and ever since they founded The Rug Company in 1997, they have worked to create the most desirable rugs in the world. Uniquely, they achieve this by combining the ancient craft of rug making with the creative brilliance of some of today’s most talented designers.
“We truly understand the unique heritage and significance of traditional rug artisanship. Our weavers craft the rugs entirely by hand, using the very same techniques as their ancestors. Our raw materials are naturally luxurious and are handled with such care that they lose none of their extraordinary properties throughout the production process. The result is a rug that is a unique piece of art and made to last a lifetime.” – they say. Many modern rugs are described as hand tufted or hand finished. These are made by the much less intensive process of hand gluing yarn onto a base material, producing a rug that is inexpensive to make, but has a short life and is difficult to repair.
The Rug Company is pleased to be a licensee of GoodWeave, a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring no child labour is used in any of its registered productions. The GoodWeave label is the best assurance that no child labour was employed in the making of that rug, and a percentage of the cost of labeled rugs goes to support GoodWeave schools in India and Nepal.
